| More On Humans Versus Apes: What Makes Us Human?
|
|
| posted on Monday, May 05, 2008
|
|
The biological gap between us and our great ape cousins is small. At
last count, only 1.23 percent of our genes differ from those of
chimpanzees. But mentally, the gap between us and them is a Grand
Canyon. On an average day in the life of the human species, we file thousands

possibilities of exploration. What many people don't know, however, are the special sacrifices that

major unsung heroes of space exploration, it turns out, are animals.

enormous amounts of energy, pollute water supplies, generate
significant greenhouse gases and require ever-increasing amounts of
corn, soy and other grains, a dependency that has led to the
destruction of vast swaths of the world’s tropical rain forests.
