|
| posted on Monday, October 22, 2007
|
|

and wellbeing may be less dramatic than anything posed by global
terrorism, but it has the potential to wreak much more havoc. And so
far, nobody has come up with a good idea on how to counter it. It's called the Storm worm.
It first appeared at the beginning of the year, hidden in email
attachments with the subject line: '230 dead as storm batters Europe'.

novel new approaches to track their moves online, providing an
invaluable tool in the global war on terror.

| posted on Tuesday, September 11, 2007

|
Second Life, a three-dimensional world built by hundreds of thousands
of users over the Internet, is also being used for education, meetings,
marketing and more obvious game playing. It’s a wide world with a lot
going on, in multiple languages, and it can be real-life enhancing for
populations who are isolated for physical, mental, or geographic
reasons. But as a petri dish for examining what makes many of us tick,
Second Life reveals just how deep-seated the drive is to fit in, look
good and get ahead in a material world.

| Are We Living In Someone Else's Computer Simulation?
|
|
| posted on Thursday, August 23, 2007
|
|
I hadn’t imagined that the omniscient, omnipotent creator of the
heavens and earth could be an advanced version of a guy who spends his
weekends building model railroads or overseeing video-game worlds like
the Sims. But now it seems quite possible. In fact, if you accept a pretty
reasonable assumption of Dr. Bostrom’s, it is almost a mathematical
certainty that we are living in someone else’s computer simulation.
