Swaziland’s representatives at the international cross-cultural conference for world peace Charles Mbingo and Sabina Makhanya returned home safely last Wednesday after a long, tiring flight from Seoul, South Korea.
The event was held in Cheongpeong, 250 kilometres east of Seoul. Thousands of delegates of all races, nationalities and gender from all the world's continents and islands attended this momentous event.
In a statement issued by Siza Ngwenya, International Federation for World Peace representative, it is stated that the theme of the conference was cross-cultural exchange and the family union for world peace. Several speakers from different parts of the world made profound statements about global peace and the route to its realisation. It is said that the founder of the Inter-religious and International Federation for World Peace (IIFWP), Dr. Sun Myung Moon underscored the family as extremely critical towards attaining social and global peace. Dr. Moon stressed on the original purpose for human existence as key to creating a stable and prosperous society.
“This global mega-structure is envisaged to link an International Highway System that will allow people to travel on land from Africa’s Cape of Good Hope to Santiago, Chile and from London to New York, across the Bering Strait, connecting the world as a single community. This is referred to as the “World Peace King Bridge Tunnel”. A great challenge that has bedeviled peaceful co-existence of mankind for ages has been the cultural and ethnic differences between peoples with all its language and communication barriers,” Dr. Moon was quoted as having said. Delegates at the conference were encouraged to network, establish cross-cultural exchange programmes and register life-time relationships and matrimonial bonds that transcend cultural and national boundaries.
Ngwenya said Swaziland had already begun taking leadership responsibility in this regard. Mbingo was nominated by delegates from the influential countries such as United States of America and South Korea to establish a secretariat that will co-ordinate global cross-cultural exchange programmes, in collaboration with UNESCO and other agencies. In keeping with the exemplary leadership of family building for social peace, Mbingo has also registered a matrimonial bond with Ann Lee Yin Teng, a beautiful young lady from Kualar Lumpur, Malaysia. Lee is no stranger to Swaziland as she is involved in a foster children project, based in the Far East, that sponsors school fees for the girl child in Swaziland, through the IIFWP subsidiary, the Women Federation for World Peace. This project was initiated long before the Swaziland government started giving financial assistance to the orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC).
