GLOBAL MINDSHIFT

Why a Mind Shift?
We may be a lot like you: We lead comfortable lives, but when we look at the world as a whole we're concerned by what we see... especially when we think about the world our children will inherit. So we asked ourselves, how can we contribute to a positive future?
For answers, we turned to experts from a wide variety of disciplines. We asked, "What do you believe is the root cause of today's challenges?" We heard a common response: the problem is our worldview. The way we see the world and our place within it is no longer working.
What's needed is a global mind shift... A new worldview that can help us see today's problems in a larger context, and give us new, creative ideas about how to solve them.
...
Why do Worldviews Shift? Worldviews shift when they no longer explain our experience of the world. We once thought that the world was flat and the earth was the center of the solar system. The evidence brought back by explorers and astronomers forced us to shift our worldview. With each new shift, new knowledge was gained, and a new field of creative possibilities opened.
We're in the midst of a shift right now. In the face of worldwide catastrophes such as global warming and mass extinction, we know the old solutions aren't working. But a new worldview is emerging, helping us to see new, creative options.
... The New Worldview The new, emerging worldview is characterized by an ever-expanding perspective. For the first time in history, the knowledge of our evolutionary story has given us empirical validation of what ancient wisdom traditions have long taught: that all life, all space and all time is interconnected and interdependent. Our challenge is to open up to this broader perspective to construct a new way of thinking and acting.
...
Tools for Thinking Our worldview answers life's most fundamental questions: Where am I? Who am I? What am I to do? By shifting our worldview, we begin to see new answers to these questions -- answers that open up new and creative possibilities for life.
Instead of seeing ourselves only in the context of a single life span, we also see ourselves as the product of 13.7 billion years of evolution. Instead of defining ourselves only in terms of our nationality, ethnicity, religion or job, we also define ourselves as evolution in process -- each of us is the point at which the future of all life unfolds. And instead of seeing ourselves as only being responsible for specific people and places, we see that we are now also responsible for all life, for all time.
We've identified four "thinking" tools that we find helpful in learning to develop and participate in this emergent worldview.
1. Become present. Live life conscious of your evolutionary context and its personal implications.
2. Become authentic. Honor your evolutionary inheritance, and fulfill your evolutionary potential for the wellbeing of all.
3. Become inclusive. Evolution advances through collaboration. Learn how to see from another's perspective -- and in the process open up a new, creative world of possibility.
4. Become responsible. By being present, authentic, and inclusive, you will have the ability to respond creatively to whatever comes your way.
