What I call "the second law of metaphysics" is this: "What you focus on expands". So, I invite you, today, to be more aware of what you're focusing on in any given moment, and the way that that thought (or set of thoughts) creates feelings in you. What feelings are they?
Then, consciously turn your attention to something that is positive for you -- and then notice how you feel. Chances are, you'll feel better -- more optimistic, more hopeful, more joyful. One of the tremendous benefits of doing this is that, after a while, you'll realize that you are in control of how you feel. When something happens that stimulates difficult feelings in you, after the initial storm of those feelings has passed, you can take a deep breath, focus on something which has positive connotations for you, and feel better. I'm not saying this is easy -- like almost anything worth doing, it takes some practice. But it is simple.
This is why I recommend doing a gratitude journal every day. Simply write down ten things your'e grateful for, each day. The format is simply "Today I am grateful for...". Do it whether you feel like doing it or not. Then notice how you feel at the end of the exercise.
According to Melody Beattie, "Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitiude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow".
So, what are you grateful for today, and what are you focusing on? Since according to Abraham, "You get what you think about, whether you want it or not", wouldn't it work better to reach for a more positive thought?
